Dr. Stefan Van Der Stigchel

Biography

Stefan van der Stigchel is a Professor of Cognitive Psychology at Utrecht University and the principal researcher of the AttentionLab. His research focuses on studying attention and visual perception, utilizing various methods such as eye movement registration, brain measurements, and psychophysics. Van der Stigchel investigates attention in patient populations, including cases of hemianopsia and visual neglect, aiming to deepen the understanding of how we create perception in the world around us. He is the author of popular science books, including 'Attention Works' published in January 2019 and 'Concentration' published by MIT Press in 2020, alongside a Dutch book titled 'Grip op je aandacht'. His work is partly supported by a VICI grant awarded by the NWO and a Consolidator Grant by the ERC.
