Dr. Stefano Caria

Biography

Stefano Caria is a Professor of Economics at Jesus College, University of Oxford. His research primarily focuses on labor markets in low- and middle-income countries, emphasizing efficiency and equity. He conducts extensive fieldwork and employs a mixture of experimental and structural methods. Current research interests include the equilibrium effects of search frictions, the impacts of job-loss risk and job-loss insurance on low-income labor markets, and mental models of competition that influence firm decisions. He is also interested in the intersection of labor market policy and climate change. Caria serves as an associate editor for Econometrica, co-chairs the labor sector at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), and leads the academic program in Ethiopia for the International Growth Centre.
