Biography

Stéfy McKnight is an Associate Professor in Media Production Design at Carleton University, cross-appointed to Communication Media Studies. They are a non-binary queer artist-scholar, based in Katarokwi/Kingston, and are involved with the directorate of both PROTOHYVE: Centre for Innovative Research-Creation and the care-laboratory for research-creation and disruptive exhibitionism, surveillART. Stéfy's research primarily examines research-creation methodologies and fact-based storytelling, focusing on themes such as surveillance, colonialism, queer representation, and digital activism. Their scholarly work spans performance art, multimedia interventions, 3D printing, and digital curatorial projects. They have previously exhibited their research-creation work across various venues including Stratford Gallery, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, and Isabel Bader Centre for Performing Arts. Stéfy actively participates in equity advocacy, promoting the participation of marginalized communities in unionized environments and equitable workplace policies.
