Biography

Dr. Stéphanie Ravillon is an Associate Teaching Professor in French and Francophone Studies at Brown University. She graduated from the University of Burgundy, France, with a Ph.D. in Postcolonial Studies. Her research primarily examines questions of identity and self within the post-colonial world. She has focused on contemporary French language, culture, society, language acquisition, teaching with technology, and translation. Dr. Ravillon has presented at various conferences concerning translation, language acquisition, and community-based translation projects. Her translation work includes legal documents associated with environmental business law. Additionally, she has served a three-year term as a delegate in the MLA Delegate Assembly focused on professional issues regarding language programs. Notably, her past research involved the specificity of postcolonial literature, the link between literature and history, and how a pluralistic heritage nurtures the imagination of postcolonial writers. Her dissertation explored the notion of hybridity in Salman Rushdie's novels. Currently, Dr. Ravillon is conducting research on textbook translation from French to English.
