Biography

Stephanie Shepard-Umaschi is an Associate Professor in the Teacher Scholar Track at Brown University, where she also serves as the Director of the Center for Evidence-Based Practices. Her work focuses on organizational assessment, training, coaching, and consultation for community programs aimed at facilitating the adoption, delivery, and sustainability of evidence-based practices for children and families. Shepard-Umaschi's research interests are primarily in the prevention and early intervention of externalizing behavior problems in young children, as well as the development and community dissemination of evidence-based practices. She has received funds for various research projects, including evaluating community behavioral health clinics and addressing elopement prevention for autistic children. Educated at Arizona State University and the University of Oregon, she completed her postdoctoral research fellowship at Brown Medical School. In addition to her research, she provides training and lectures on program evaluation and mental health services in community settings, and is involved in training pediatric residents and fellows. Shepard-Umaschi has contributed significantly to the field through her guidance and support for parents and professionals in early childhood education, particularly through courses she developed and evaluated for teacher training.
