Biography

Stephen Boyle is a Lecturer at the School of Education, University of Glasgow. His research focuses on the use of film in professional learning and the professional identity of practitioners involved in childhood practice. Stephen is currently exploring how the use of filmmaking, informed by Aristotelian concepts of ethos, pathos, and logos, can enhance professional learning and service provision. He is particularly interested in the evolving role of support staff in schools and the sustainability of existing structures within childhood practice. Furthermore, Stephen has expertise in technology-enhanced teaching and has designed a widely recognized Masters’ level course that incorporates interactive ICT devices for teachers. His innovative eLearning Communications Development course aims to professionalize childhood practice leaders through an ePortfolio system that encourages self-regulation and community inquiry. In collaboration with the Scottish Government, Stephen has recently worked on a project called Film Science Teaching, which seeks to reinvigorate science education in primary schools through moving image education.
