Dr. Stephen Humphrey

Biography

Stephen E. Humphrey is the Alvin H. Clemens Professor at Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University, where he joined in 2008. He holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from Michigan State University and a B.S. in Psychology from James Madison University. His research centers on team structure, emphasizing teamwork and the drivers of team success. Dr. Humphrey's work has been published in esteemed journals such as the Academy of Management Journal and the Strategic Management Journal. He co-edited the Handbook of Multilevel Theory, Measurement, and Analysis, reflecting his standing in the academic community. He is an active member of the Academy of Management and the International Association for Conflict Management. His research addresses critical questions about effective team dynamics, focusing on both 'bottom-up' and 'top-down' approaches to team development through various lens such as role configuration, leadership structures, and team dynamics.
