Dr. Stephen Silverman

Biography

Stephen Silverman is a Professor Emeritus at Teachers College, Columbia University, in the Graduate School of Education, Health, and Psychology. He holds a B.S. in Health Physical Education from Temple University, an M.S. in Physical Education from Washington State University, and an Ed.D. in Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His scholarly interests include physical education, research teaching, and research methodology applied statistics. His extensive research focuses on the teaching and learning of motor skills, attitudes, and methods in physical education, and he has contributed over 125 chapters and more than 80 refereed research articles to the field. As a co-author, he has written several significant texts, including 'Research Methods in Physical Activity' and 'Student Learning in Physical Education.' A recognized leader, Silverman has received numerous awards for his contributions, including the National Association of Sport and Physical Education Presidential Award and has held editorial positions in several prominent journals. His work has significantly impacted the field of kinesiology and physical education, influencing teaching practices and research methodologies.
