Dr. Steven Franconeri

Biography

Steven Franconeri is a Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and the Director of the Cognitive Science Program. He holds courtesy professorships in the Kellogg School of Management and the McCormick School of Engineering. His areas of focus include cognitive science, visual thinking, data visualization, business visualization, information design, and STEM education. Franconeri's research examines data presentation and visualization, including the design of dashboards that aid understanding and communication. He has received funding from prestigious entities such as the National Science Foundation, Department of Education, and the Department of Defense for his work in cognitive science and data visualization. Franconeri was awarded the National Science Foundation CAREER award and the Psychonomic Society Early Career award for his research on visual thinking. He completed his undergraduate training in computer science and cognitive science at Rutgers University and earned a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Harvard University, supported by the National Defense Science and Engineering Fellowship. He also held a Walter Isaac Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of British Columbia.
