Biography

Stewart Smith is an experienced music educator and performer, affiliated with the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba. He has extensive experience performing with orchestras, wind bands, chamber groups, and jazz ensembles. Throughout his career, he has contributed to music education in middle and high schools. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master of Music from Northwestern University. Smith is actively involved in research related to creative works, and he serves as a clinician in areas such as low brass, jazz, and music technology. He has taught music camps across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, North Dakota, and Vermont, and has adjudicated for music festivals in these regions. Additionally, he co-founded the ALIVE Project, which focuses on accessible live internet video education for music educators and students across North America, Europe, Hong Kong, Australia. His presentations about the ALIVE Project have been featured at various national and international conferences.
