Canadian flutist Susan Hoeppner is recognized for her deeply lyrical and colorful phrasing, as well as her dazzling virtuosity. A JUNO-nominated recording artist, she has established herself as an international soloist and chamber musician, performing in venues across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Hoeppner began her professional career as a guest soloist with orchestras, notably at the famed Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. Over the years, she has been invited to perform at numerous Canadian embassies, which inspired renowned Canadian composers such as Christos Hatzis, who wrote a Flute Concerto titled 'Departures' that premiered with the Kyoto Symphony in 2011. Another notable work, the Flute Sonata by Gary Kulesha, premiered in Toronto in 2014. Hoeppner's recording titled 'American Flute Masterpieces' was nominated for a JUNO Award in 2012 for 'Best Classical Album of the Year: Solo Chamber.' Her album 'Canadian Flute Masterpieces,' in collaboration with pianist Lydia Wong, was released in October 2016 under the Centrediscs/Naxos label. Graduating from the Juilliard School where she studied under Julius Baker, Hoeppner is also a faculty member at the Royal Conservatory's Glenn Gould School and Taylor Academy, as well as at the University of Toronto. In addition, she serves as a Wm.S.Haynes Artist, representing the renowned Boston-based flute company with performances and master classes year-round.
