Biography

Susan Silver is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at Toronto Metropolitan University. She holds a BA and MSW from the University of Toronto and a PhD from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia. Susan has served as the Director of the School and Graduate Program Director for the MSW program. Her research interests encompass critical approaches to quantitative and qualitative research, community-based program evaluation, and the impact of interactive communication technologies on research. She is deeply engaged in women’s health issues, the effects of precarious work, and social welfare policy. Susan has led numerous large-scale research studies across Canada and internationally, focusing on evaluating community-based programs. Notable projects include developing an evaluation framework for family support programs and a study investigating the impact of labor market restructuring on Canadian workers. She has also collaborated with various Canadian and Dominican researchers in child protection program evaluations and has worked with occupational health professionals in Brazil. Currently, her research interests are shifting towards chronic illness and women’s health in the context of community-based research and evaluation using virtual technologies. She has received several awards, including the Janice Waddell Collegiality Award and TMU's Alan Shepard Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award.
