Dr. Sylvie Belleville

Biography

Sylvie Belleville is a full professor at the Department of Psychology at the Université de Montréal, a researcher at the research center of the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal, and the scientific director of the Québec Research Network on Aging (RQRV). She holds the Canada Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience of Aging and Brain Plasticity. Belleville's career is dedicated to advancing knowledge and practices in psychology while addressing issues related to aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Her research expertise includes neuropsychology of aging, developing cognitive training interventions, and understanding the mechanisms underlying cognitive resilience in older adults at risk of dementia. She has significantly contributed to identifying early markers of Alzheimer’s disease through innovative imaging techniques and cognitive assessment. Belleville's work aims to delay the onset of cognitive decline, improve early diagnosis and management of memory disorders, and equip clinicians and trainees with practical tools for effective intervention. She is also committed to public education and policy advocacy, leading various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for older adults.
