Biography

Sylvie Vandaele holds a state diploma in pharmacy and a Ph.D. in life sciences (molecular pharmacology). She worked in biomedical research until 1995 before transitioning to translation with a postgraduate diploma and a master's degree in translation. She has worked in private practice for major pharmaceutical companies for several years and has been teaching at the Université de Montréal since 2000. From 2008 to 2014, she served as editor of the journal Meta. She teaches biomedical translation at the undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, and master's levels, and has previously taught research methodology and directed reading courses at graduate levels. Additionally, she coordinates biomedical, scientific, and technical sectors and rejuvenated the department's mid-day conferences since 2007. As a certified translator and terminologist, she regularly offers specialized continuing education seminars through the Quebec Order of Translators, Terminologists, and Interpreters (OTTIAQ).
