Biography

Tammy Tong is a Senior Nutritional Epidemiologist at the Cancer Epidemiology Unit (CEU) within the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division. Her primary research focus is on the role of diet in health, particularly the health effects of vegetarian and vegan diets, with an emphasis on cardiovascular disease and bone health. Tammy's research utilizes data from the EPIC-Oxford study and the UK Biobank. In 2021, she was awarded the Oxford Population Health Fellowship to lead research on the Dietary Protein Stroke Consortium and has since been awarded the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship in 2023 to further develop her research program on dietary blood proteins and their role in age-related diseases affecting bone and vascular health. She serves on the EPIC-Oxford Steering Committee and is the Module Lead for the Principles of Epidemiology module in the MSc Global Health Science program. Tammy holds a PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge and previously earned her BSc in Human Sciences from University College London and an MPhil in Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge. She joined the Cancer Epidemiology Unit in 2017.
