Biography

Tatiana Degai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Victoria. Her scholarly and creative work is deeply informed by the beautiful land of Kamchatka and the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Tatiana is dedicated to advancing Indigenous research methodologies, ethics, and community-engaged research, focusing on ethnographies of the North-Pacific and Arctic, as well as language revitalization. With formal training in anthropology, American Indian Studies, and linguistics, she aims to maintain strong connections with knowledge holders in her community, fostering a better understanding of unique methodologies developed by Indigenous peoples for sustainable living in Northern climates. Her research interests include the revitalization and stabilization of Indigenous knowledge systems, as well as the sustainability and well-being of Indigenous communities in the Russian North Arctic.
