Dr. Terry Cumming

Biography

Therese M. Cumming is a Professor specializing in Special Education at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney. She has an extensive academic background, holding a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bloomsburg University, a Master of Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Ph.D. from the same institution. Professor Cumming is the Academic Lead for the Disability Innovation Institute and serves as the Deputy Director for the Scientia Education Academy at UNSW. With years of experience as a special educator and behavior mentor in the United States, her research primarily focuses on advancing the field of special education. Key areas of her research include emotional and behavioral disorders, social skills training, positive behavioral interventions, and the use of technology in the classroom. She is dedicated to improving educational practices to better support students with disabilities, aiming to bridge the research-practice gap. Cumming has been involved in various research projects to enhance the educational experience for individuals with complex needs, contributing significantly to the field.
