Biography

Theophilus Savvas is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol, specializing in Modern Literature with a focus on the conceptualization of Anglo-American writing from the late nineteenth century to the present, particularly through the lens of vegetarianism and veganism. His current project involves a monograph titled 'Modern Literature Elements', which analyzes the influence of ancient philosophical ideas, such as the elements of water, wind, fire, and earth, on contemporary literature, specifically through the works of writers like Walt Whitman, Thomas Hardy, D.H. Lawrence, Joseph Conrad, and Toni Morrison. Savvas' previous publications include a monograph, 'American Postmodernist Fiction and the Past', published by Palgrave in 2011, as well as co-editing a special issue on American fiction and postmodernism for the journal 'Textual Practice'. He is deeply interested in the relationship between literature, ecology, and animal rights, alongside the history and theory of literary criticism. At the University of Bristol, he has developed and taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and he is open to supervising PhD projects that align with his research interests.
