Biography

Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann, born in 1968, is a prominent figure in the field of Food Chemistry and Molecular Sensory Science. He received his doctorate from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 1995 and completed postdoctoral studies in 1998 in the Chemistry Department at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He served as the Acting Director at the German Food Chemistry Research Institute and became a professor and director of the Food Chemistry Institute at Münster University in 2002. In 2007, he returned to TUM as a full professor, establishing the Chair of Food Chemistry and Molecular Sensors. His research mainly focuses on screening, identification, and quantification of organoleptic, bioactive, and techno-functional natural products from plant sources. He has been actively involved in various scientific initiatives, including the initiation of the European Institute of Technology’s Knowledge Innovation Community "EIT FOOD." Prof. Hofmann has held prominent positions such as Senior Vice President for Research Innovation and is currently the President of TUM. His accomplishments have earned him various awards, including the ACS Fellow Award (2008) and the Agricultural Food Chemistry Award (2014).
