Biography

Thomas Lendvay is an Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Washington and Co-Director of the Seattle Children’s Hospital Robotic Surgery Center. He is a practicing pediatric urologist and the Fellowship Program Director for Pediatric Urology. Lendvay's research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgery in pediatric urology, with particular emphasis on enhancing the learning curves and surgical skills of trainees and practicing clinicians across surgical disciplines. He serves as principal investigator on an extramurally funded Department of Defense grant aimed at testing the hypothesis that virtual reality robotic surgery warm-ups before actual surgeries can improve the technical skills of practicing robotic surgeons. Lendvay has also pioneered the use of crowdsourcing to assess the technical skills of surgeons, which has helped to overcome barriers associated with objective skills assessment that are typically resource-intensive.
