Biography

Thursica Kovinthan Levi is an Assistant Professor in the School of Early Childhood Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. She earned her PhD in Education from the University of Ottawa and holds a Master's degree in Child Study and Education from the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study at the University of Toronto. Her research interests focus on supporting students from refugee backgrounds and multilingual language learners in school settings, with a particular emphasis on peace conflict education and teacher education. Dr. Levi's research has taken her to various regions, including South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Central America. She has previously worked as an elementary teacher with the Toronto District School Board and served as an education policy analyst with Global Affairs Canada. Her areas of expertise include literacy in early years, language development, and the challenges faced by precarious status students and their families. She has received several accolades, including an SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2022-2024 and the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship from SSHRC from 2015-2019.
