Widely regarded as today’s celebrated classical saxophonist, Timothy McAllister has appeared with forty of the world’s finest orchestras across twenty-five countries. He is a champion of contemporary music and has been credited with sixty recordings and a hundred premières of works by eminent composers worldwide. Pulitzer Prize and Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano wrote 'TRIATHLON: Concerto for Saxophonist and Orchestra' for McAllister, which premiered with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero, followed by a recording with the Nashville Symphony. McAllister reprised this work in his acclaimed solo debut with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Slatkin. In collaboration with Pulitzer Prize nominee Tyshawn Sorey, McAllister premiered the 2024 Pulitzer Prize-winning work 'Adagio (For Wadada Leo Smith)' at the Lucerne Festival with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He has also premiered the Saxophone Concerto by John Adams with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and has appeared with numerous major orchestras around the world. McAllister's interest in expanding the saxophone repertoire has led to Project Encore, a collaboration aimed at commissioning new works for saxophone and piano. He has been a professor of saxophone at the University of Michigan since 2014, and previously held positions at Arizona State University and Northwestern University. McAllister’s students have won prestigious competitions and hold positions in premier military bands and higher education.
