Biography

Canadian pianist Timothy Steeves is widely known as half of Duo Concertante, alongside his wife and violinist Nancy Dahn. Since their formation in 1997, the duo has garnered acclaim for their exceptional performances characterized by passion, subtlety, and brilliance. Steeves and Dahn have impressed audiences worldwide, receiving critical accolades for their artistry and technique. Steeves released a solo CD of Haydn sonatas in 2015 and has participated in thirteen noteworthy recordings with Duo Concertante, encompassing a variety of classical works, including the complete Beethoven Sonatas and J.S. Bach's Six Sonatas for Violin and Keyboard. Their recording, 'Wild Bird,' won a JUNO award in 2011, and their 2022 album 'Ecology' has been called a powerful, deeply moving collection. Steeves has an active performing schedule across North America, Europe, and China, showcasing their work in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall. His commitment to teaching is evident through hundreds of master classes across Canada and the establishment of the Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival, which brings together young musicians and world-class artists. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2016, he was awarded the title of John Lewis Paton Distinguished Professor in 2021, recognizing his exemplary teaching and research efforts. Outside of music, he values spending time with his children, Clara and Sasha, and enjoys topics like astronomy and history.
