Biography

Tina Alexander-Luna is a Canadian mezzo-soprano and educator based in Ottawa, Ontario. She is known for her versatility as a performer and teacher. Dr. Alexander-Luna holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Lethbridge, a Master of Music from the University of Ottawa, and an Advanced Certificate in Performance, as well as a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on art songs by the Canadian composer Violet Archer, emphasizing the important role Archer played as a female composer in Canada during the twentieth century. Dr. Alexander-Luna is equally at home in Opera, Concert, Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM), and Choral settings. She has performed in the Opera Chorus of Canada, with the Canadian Chamber Choir, and as a chorus member of the Canadian Opera Company. Some of her highlighted roles include the Lady in 'Die Zauberflöte,' the Sorceress in Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas,' and the Mother in 'Amahl and the Night Visitors.' She has appeared as an alto soloist in concert settings alongside the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Alexander-Luna is a tenured faculty member at Northwestern Polytechnic, co-founding the Peace Region Music Series to make professional live classical music accessible in Northern Alberta. Additionally, she serves as the Vocal Director for the Adirondack Performing Arts Fellowship's summer music program in Upstate New York. As an in-demand clinician, adjudicator, and guest soloist, Dr. Alexander-Luna is excited to be part of the University of Regina community.
