Biography

Thomas Dust holds the position of Professor in Secondary Music Education at the University of Alberta. He teaches undergraduate and graduate curriculum instruction courses in secondary music and is the founder and director of the University of Alberta Marching Band. Additionally, he conducts the University of Alberta Convocation Band. Dust has earned undergraduate degrees in Music Education and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies, as well as a Doctorate in Music Education from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. His teaching experience includes a position as an Associate Instructor in the Jazz Department and directing Jazz Band III at Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis. A respected clinician and adjudicator, Dust actively contributes to the music education community through various journals and presentations. His extensive performance background includes work with notable big bands and orchestras, showcasing his expertise in jazz and brass performance. Dust's scholarly work includes publications on music education and he is a member of several professional organizations.
