Tomo Nagashima is a learning scientist and Human-Computer Interaction researcher who works closely with education stakeholders, including teachers, students, and parents, to support human learning through advanced technologies in STEM domains. His research focuses on understanding how to effectively support meaningful human learning activities by designing advanced, AI-based learning technologies that cater to various stakeholders. Tomo has collaborated with 2,000 educators and school-aged students across Europe and East Asia to co-design a wide range of learning technologies and instructional strategies while also conducting school-based research. He is an advocate for the open education movement and has worked with researchers, educators, and learners in Creative Commons Japan's Open Education Group to identify the needs and challenges associated with openly sharing educational materials, aiming to design practical solutions that help educators and learners engage effectively with open educational practices. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Technology-Enhanced Learning at Saarland University in Germany. He completed his Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University and holds an M.S. in the same field from Carnegie Mellon, as well as an M.A. in Learning, Design, and Technology from Stanford's Graduate School of Education.
