Biography

Ulf has worked in research and teaching at Oxford for over a decade. He is a strategy and strategic foresight practitioner who has deployed design thinking in strategy for the past 25 years, advising on strategic innovation for global firms and public sector organizations such as governments. Originally a painter, Ulf developed an interest in design theory and creative processes, leading him to explore the intersection of design and strategy under the late Richard Normann in the mid-1990s. He is a co-founder of NormannPartners and has engaged in consulting work with a diverse range of clients across more than ten countries. Ulf has led Europe-wide initiatives in innovation policy formation at large urban regions and at the county governor or mayor level. He was appointed by the Swedish Government to serve on the board of Sweden’s largest research financing foundation, the Knowledge Foundation. Ulf holds an MPhil in Design Theory from Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg's School of Business, Economics, and Law, along with a BSc in Business Administration from the Gothenburg School of Economics, which included studies at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. As an accomplished painter, his work has featured in over 20 exhibitions in galleries and museums across Sweden, Denmark, France, and Hungary. Ulf has also authored several books, chapters, and articles on relevant topics.
