Vera Williams Tetteh is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University and a member of the Language on the Move research team. Her research interests include language learning and teaching, intercultural communication, World Englishes, language migration, and adult migrant language experiences. Vera completed her PhD thesis on the language learning and settlement experiences of African migrants in Australia. This thesis examined the interplay of pre-migration language learning and education experiences with post-migration settlement outcomes in Australia and was shortlisted for the 2018 Joshua Fishman Award for outstanding dissertation in the sociology of language. She was also a runner-up for the 2016 Michael Clyne Award presented by the Australian Linguistic Society. In 2018, Vera received the Department of Linguistics’ Chitra Fernando Fellowship for Early Career researchers, where she worked on a collaborative study focusing on oracy-based multilingualism in sub-Saharan African communities in Australia. Vera engages in interdisciplinary research with colleagues from Sociology, Business, and Marketing, and her work contributes to a deeper understanding of the linguistic and sociocultural dynamics at play in multilingual environments.
