Biography

Veronica Smith is a Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta, specializing in Educational Psychology. Her research interests focus on child development and the examination of interventions that support young children with developmental disabilities. Prior to her academic career, she practiced as a clinical Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in public schools, preschools, and hospital settings in Alberta and British Columbia. Smith's early career experiences fueled her interest in intervention science, particularly the gaps between evidence-based practices and their reality in implementation settings. Her scholarly work includes the development of methodological expertise in systematically reviewing effective interventions for children with autism. Additionally, she has conducted research exploring the conditions that influence the delivery of effective programs in school and community contexts. Smith was a co-investigator for the Parent Child Early (PACE) Coaching Project, which aimed to develop and evaluate a parent coaching intervention for children at risk of autism spectrum disorder.
