Dr. Veronica Whitford

Biography

Dr. Veronica Whitford is an Associate Professor and an NSERC Canada Research Chair Tier II at the University of New Brunswick. Her research focuses on developmental cognitive psychology and neuroscience, particularly in the areas of language, reading, and neurocognitive performance across the lifespan. Dr. Whitford's work investigates processes in diverse populations with varying linguistic and cognitive profiles, including neurotypical individuals and those with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Her lab employs multi-method approaches, utilizing standardized assessments, behavioral measures, eye-tracking, and neurophysiological measures like electroencephalography (EEG). Committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in research, her lab creates a supportive environment that values diverse perspectives and actively seeks to engage historically marginalized and underrepresented groups in psychology. Dr. Whitford has academic qualifications including a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from McGill University and two postdoctoral fellowships in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Western Ontario and Harvard University/Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
