Biography

Dr. Vinciya Pandian serves as the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and is a Professor in the Nursing department at Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing. She holds a joint appointment with the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Penn State College of Medicine. An internationally recognized leader in critical care research, her work focuses on patient safety and tracheostomy care, with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for patients on mechanical ventilation. She has completed an R01 study investigating laryngeal injury post-extubation and is currently funded by the AHRQ, where she leads the Center for Immersive Learning and Digital Innovation: Patient Safety Learning Lab. This initiative leverages innovative technology to mitigate central line-associated bloodstream infections. Dr. Pandian's research extends globally through collaborative projects in Nigeria, India, and Portugal. She is passionate about mentorship and guides students and faculty from nursing, medicine, respiratory therapy, and speech-language pathology to conduct impactful research and disseminate their findings. Dr. Pandian holds leadership positions including President of the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative and Past President of the Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Nurses.
