Dr. Lachapelle obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2011 from the University of Montreal. She subsequently completed a doctorate in Microbiology at the University of Montreal in 2018, where she studied the dynamics of enteric viral contamination in the pig production environment. From 2018 to 2019, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in science policy at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), where she worked on developing a risk assessment model focused on livestock establishments in Canada. Since then, she has worked as a specialist veterinarian at the CFIA, where she is involved in developing and implementing risk assessment models related to food safety and/or animal health for regulated establishments in the food, hatchery, and livestock sectors. These models aim to modernize the agency's inspection approach according to the risks posed by federally regulated establishments. At the University of Montreal, Dr. Lachapelle contributes to teaching risk analysis in food safety and viral zoonoses as part of the Veterinary Medicine doctorate program and the certificate program in food technology and safety. As of October 2023, she is an associate scientific director and a member of the steering committee for the Food Safety Research and Teaching Group (GRESA).
