Renee Acosta received her B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. She practiced community pharmacy in Austin as a staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager. In 1996, she returned to graduate school to pursue an M.S. degree in the Pharmacy Option II Program at UT Austin. In 1998, she became the founding program coordinator and a full-time faculty member of the Pharmacy Technician Program at Austin Community College, where she developed and maintained the curriculum, including traditional classroom, laboratory, experiential, and distance learning classes. Acosta joined the College of Pharmacy as a clinical assistant professor in 2003 and became a full-time faculty member in pharmacy practice in June 2005. She currently coordinates and teaches an over-the-counter medication course sequence in the professional pharmacy degree program. Additionally, she teaches a Signature Course titled 'Self-Care OTC Products' and has served as Assistant Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, providing leadership for the Pharm.D. program. Acosta is an active member of various local, state, and national pharmacy organizations, with research interests including over-the-counter products and innovative teaching methods.
