Walter Martin Senn is a Professor of Computational Neuroscience in the Department of Physiology at the University of Bern. He studied Mathematics and Physics at the University of Bern and received his PhD in differential geometry and calculus of variations in 1993. He further explored dynamical systems at Lomonossov University in Moscow. Senn has held a postdoctoral position in Neural Computation at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, participating in research stays at the National Institute of Health in the USA and New York University. His research focuses on using mathematical models to understand cognitive phenomena such as perception, learning, and memory, by exploring how these emerge from neuronal structures. At the University of Bern, he has worked in the Neural Network group of the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, modeling pattern generation in the spinal cord and engaging in projects related to pattern recognition. He teaches courses in the Biomedical Engineering Master's Program, including Basics of Physiology.
