Biography

Xiao is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), with a focus on enhancing the first-year experience for students. He co-leads the UNSW Education-Focused EFYE Community Practice. Xiao joined UNSW in 2020 and has accumulated years of industry experience in life insurance and consulting as well as venture capital and entrepreneurship. He holds a PhD from UNSW, a Master of Science in Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Xiao is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a Chartered Accountant in Australia, a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, a Certified Public Accountant in the USA, a Financial Risk Manager, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst. His research interests are centered around actuarial practice, financial risk management, educational pedagogy, and technology in education.
