Biography

Yan Jin is a Professor of Aerospace Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California and serves as the Director of the USC IMPACT Laboratory. He earned his Ph.D. in Naval Engineering from the University of Tokyo and conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University. His research focuses on design theory and methodology, knowledge-based systems, distributed multi-agent systems, organization modeling, project management, and collaborative engineering. Before joining USC in Fall 1996, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Stanford University. Current research interests include design cognition methods, collaborative engineering, enterprise modeling, and complex systems. Jin has received notable awards such as the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the TRW Excellence Teaching Award. He has served in various leadership roles, including as Program Chair and Conference Chair for the Design Theory Methodology Conference. Actively involved in editorial duties, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the AIEDAM Journal and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Mechanical Design. Jin is also recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
