Biography

Yasuko Oura is a lecturer in collaborative piano at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where she enjoys working with talented pianists and coaching chamber music. She has developed a busy performance schedule collaborating with various opera companies and has been a vocal coach for Des Moines Metro Opera for a decade. Ms. Oura has worked with renowned conductors such as Sir Andrew Davis and Stephen Lord, and has served as the principal production pianist and coach for the Florentine Opera for seven years. Her extensive performance history includes prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall’s Weil Recital Hall and Alice Tully Hall. A co-artistic director of the Chamber Music Bethany concert series, she has performed alongside distinguished musicians, including those from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Throughout her career, she has also worked for prominent opera companies such as Fort Worth Opera and Kentucky Opera, and has served as an official pianist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Oura holds a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and both master's and doctoral degrees from The Juilliard School, where she was a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow.
