Dr. Yuchen Chen

Biography

Yuchen Chen is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Baruch College, City University of New York (CUNY). His research focuses on ethnographic studies of digital cultures in contemporary China, particularly examining intersections of science and technology studies, digital studies, and China studies. Chen's work critically explores themes such as data-driven governance in China and the implications of global digital platforms. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Media from the University of Michigan, where he also received the Barbour Scholarship. His academic contributions include publications in leading communication and media studies journals such as New Media & Society and Information, Communication & Society. Chen is actively engaged in conferences and workshops related to technology, communication, and societal impacts, contributing insights into the evolving dynamics of digital infrastructure in China. He has earned recognition for his work, receiving awards such as the Top Student Paper Award from the Communication Technology Division of the International Communication Association.
