Biography

Yulia Kashevarova is a doctoral student in the Linguistics section at Umeå University. Her research utilizes experimental methods to investigate how multiple cue use in third-language Swedish sentences and discourses is affected by learners' native languages. Specifically, she explores the extent to which adult learners' sensitivity to discourse and sentence-level cues in their second and third languages impacts their processing efficiency and cognitive load. Her studies involve participants who are adult speakers of Russian, English, and Swedish, focusing on how lexical competition is modulated by contextual factors. Kashevarova is particularly interested in the effects of individual learner characteristics, including language learning history and immersion experiences, on trilingual language processing. Additionally, she has presented her psycholinguistics research on multilinguals, contributing to the understanding of language expectations in event descriptions.
