Biography

Aaron D. Knochel is an Associate Professor of Art Education at Penn State University, focusing on visual arts learning spaces, schools, museums, and community arts programs both domestically and internationally. He was a 2022-23 Fulbright Scholar in the Digital Culture program at the University of Bergen, Norway. His research interests include transdisciplinary learning, critical social theory, and media arts, with a particular emphasis on community-based media production and digital visual culture in K-12 art classrooms. Current projects investigate the impacts of generative artificial intelligence in art education and its intersections with health and care through creative practice. Knochel has presented his work at national and international conferences and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals including Studies in Art Education and Visual Arts Research. He has held significant roles in various professional organizations and has organized art exhibitions, including a group show in 2023 at the Oodi Library in Helsinki, Finland. He received his PhD from Ohio State University in 2011 and has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in art education.
