Biography

Alex Örtegren is a PhD student at Umeå University in the Department of Applied Educational Science. His research focuses on preparing teacher educators to train new teachers in teaching about democracy, digital technologies, fake news, and artificial intelligence. His work explores notable areas such as postdigital theory, the profession-specific digital competence of teacher educators, and how such competencies influence the democratic participation of young people in a digitally permeated society. He is part of a Swedish research consortium called GRADE, which includes nine universities collaborating to understand the implications of digitalization on education. Örtegren also actively participates in peer-review activities for international scientific journals, including the European Journal of Teacher Education and Education Information Technologies. He serves on the steering committee for the Umeå School of Education's Research Committee and contributes to several research projects focused on digital citizenship and the effects of digital transformation in preschool education.
