Dr. Alexina Williams

Biography

Alexina Thorén Williams is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg in the Department of Education and Special Education, specializing in Subject Didactics within Science Technology Education. Her research focuses on developing subject-specific didactical knowledge for student teachers and in-service teachers in the context of science education. She has a particular interest in didactical theory, authentic learning environments, science centers, and sustainable development education. Thorén Williams has contributed to several research projects including the national ULF project on Biomimicry and the EU Erasmus+ project NBS Academy, which aims to integrate nature-based solutions into teacher education. Her courses include the development of subject-specific didactics in biology education at both undergraduate and master’s levels. She coordinates the practicum course in the Swedish Complementary Teacher Education Program, impacting about 120 students annually. Her teaching and research are closely integrated, promoting collaboration between student teachers and school teachers. She co-founded ASSET Sweden, promoting research-based sustainability education in schools. Her publications include peer-reviewed studies on various methodologies and frameworks relevant to teacher education.
