Biography

Alma Memisevic is an Associate Professor at Linköping University specializing in Science Education. Her research focuses on the teaching of science and technology subjects within the context of school-age educare for compulsory school pupils with intellectual disabilities. Memisevic's doctoral thesis, titled “Teaching in School-Age Educare Centres Era Learning: Discourse-Analytical Study Focusing Scientific Technical Teaching Practices,” explores the tensions between tradition and renewal in the educational mission of school-age educare centres (SAECs). Utilizing ethnographically inspired studies and video observations, her work critically examines the evolving roles of SAECs in light of international knowledge assessments and the increasing demands placed on educational institutions to support students’ academic achievements. Her research interests have since expanded to include special education and the facilitation of learning for students with intellectual disabilities, emphasizing the importance of equitable educational practices that address the needs of marginalized groups in the system. Thus, she aims to generate scientific knowledge that enhances the participation of students with intellectual disabilities in society.
