Dr. Anita Kärner Köhler

Biography

Anita Kärner Köhler is a Senior Associate Professor in Caring Sciences at Linköping University. Her research primarily focuses on patients’ learning processes related to lifestyle habits and patient education to support a healthy lifestyle in individuals living with coronary heart disease (CHD). Her recent work has explored the effects of problem-based learning (PBL) methods for patient education in primary care settings. She leads a research group composed of experts in Medical Pedagogics, Nursing, Cardiology, General Practice, Statistics, and Health Economy. Kärner Köhler has been pivotal in evaluating the PBL approach's effects on beliefs surrounding lifestyle habits and patient empowerment in managing self-care and recovery post-cardiac events. She has taken part in numerous studies aimed at understanding patients’ experiences and developing effective educational interventions. In her educational role, she coordinates a course on Systematic Physical Examination, Advanced Health Assessment, and Clinical Reasoning for nursing students, integrating hands-on training with evidence-based teaching methodologies. She has actively contributed to networks focused on problem-based learning and cardiovascular research.
