Biography

Arig al Shaibah is the Associate Vice-President, Equity & Inclusion at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She plays a crucial role in championing inclusive excellence and leading efforts to implement UBC's commitments to equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. With more than a decade of experience in higher education administration, Arig has contributed to significant positions at McMaster University and Dalhousie University. Her research interests encompass areas such as social (in)equality, intergroup relations, and critical human rights education. She has taught courses related to race, racism, and diversity, furthering her engagement in research on building institutional capacity for equitable and inclusive anti-racist leadership. Arig holds a PhD in Education with a focus on Cultural Policy Studies and has received recognition for her EDI leadership, including the 2021 Angela Hildyard Award from Senior Women Academic Administrators Canada. Throughout her career, she has worked to serve marginalized communities and foster a more equitable academic environment.
