Dr. Audrey Mbeje

Biography

Audrey Mbeje is a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, where she directs the African Languages Program at the Penn Language Center. She specializes in teaching Zulu language courses, which include various levels such as Elementary and Intermediate Zulu. Dr. Mbeje has a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from Ball State University. Her research interests encompass discourse analysis, second and foreign language pedagogy, and curriculum design, with a focus on assessments and online materials development. Furthermore, she investigates linguistic features in Nguni languages, particularly aspects like anaphora, passivization, and tense/aspect relations. Mbeje’s contributions to the field are represented in her publications, including works on Zulu language structure and pedagogical applications of contrastive studies. She is actively involved in professional associations, holding positions such as Vice President of the African Language Teachers Association. Through her work, she aims to enhance the understanding of Africana languages and their cultural significance.
