Dr. Belinda Daniels

Biography

Belinda Daniels is an Assistant Professor in Indigenous Education at the University of Victoria, bringing over 20 years of classroom and land-based experience to her role. She is a member of the Sturgeon Lake Nation in Saskatchewan and serves as a language warrior dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of Indigenous languages. As a long-time educator, Belinda has focused her research on Indigenous worldviews, online learning, Indigenous pedagogies, and teacher education. She founded nēhiyawak Language Experience Inc. and has held leadership roles such as past President of FEL Canada and a board member of CCUNESCO. Her PhD dissertation, completed in 2021, focused on the reclamation of the nēhiyawēwin language. Her work encompasses Indigenous Language Revitalization, Indigenous language assessment proficiency, and applied linguistics, with specific interest in land-based education methodologies. Belinda is committed to supporting Indigenous student success and promoting Indigenous knowledge in educational settings.
