Dr. Bob Bain

Biography

Bob Bain is an Associate Professor in the Marsal Family School of Education at the University of Michigan, where he has taught since 1998. With a PhD focused on history, particularly history policy and youth, Bain has a background in teaching high school history and social studies for 26 years in the Cleveland, Ohio area. He has received multiple awards for excellence in teaching, including the Michigan Council for Social Studies College Educator of the Year Award in 2008 and 2011. Bain's research interests lie at the intersection of social science disciplines and the teaching and learning of history across various contexts, including classrooms and museums. He has led initiatives such as the World History Literature Initiative and has contributed to the Big History Project. His work extends to educational consulting, focusing on teacher learning and the development of discipline-based adolescent literacy. Furthermore, he was awarded the Teaching Innovation Prize in 2010 for his collaborative work on clinical practice rounds in teacher education. Bain has also been actively involved in various history and social science education projects at national, state, and local levels, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving educational practices and outcomes.
