Dr. Bryan Nichols

Biography

Bryan E. Nichols is an Associate Professor of Music Education at Pennsylvania State University, where he leads the University Choir, teaches various courses in music education, and directs the Pitch Exploration Lab. He is a life member of the American Choral Directors Association and has held several leadership roles within NAfME and ACDA, contributing to the Future Directions Committee of the Kentucky Music Educators Association as the Region 4 Choral Chair. Nichols has also served as Regional R&R Chair for ACDA in Ohio and Kentucky, where the choirs he conducted have performed at state music education conferences and toured various regions of the country. Under his direction, several ensembles have commissioned five musical works and participated in joint performances with groups like the Indianapolis Children’s Chorus and Minnesota Boychoir. Nichols has published research in distinguished journals such as the Journal of Music Teacher Education and Musicae Scientiae, focusing on areas related to music teacher pedagogy and singing accuracy. He is also engaged with editorial boards of multiple music education journals. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Music Education from Florida State University, and a PhD from the University of Washington.
