Dr. Catherine Walker

Biography

Catherine Walker is a Clinical Professor and Associate Chair of Musical Theatre at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance. With over 35 years of professional experience as a music director, conductor, vocal coach, pianist, and educator, Ms. Walker has significantly contributed to the field of music education. She served as Music Supervisor for the 2024 Japanese Tour of RENT in Tokyo and Osaka. Her extensive directing credits include work with Island Center Productions in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the American School in London, and various prestigious theatre companies across the United States. Additionally, she has guest lectured internationally, including at Mahidol University in Bangkok. Ms. Walker is recognized for her excellence in teaching, receiving several Gilbert Whitaker Grants for Improvement in Teaching, which she utilized to advance pedagogical methods in contemporary vocal performance. She is a certified Estill Master Trainer and continues to explore somatic methodologies to enhance vocal training. Notably, her choirs have performed at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, and she is a sought-after clinician across the nation and internationally. Ms. Walker holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Western Michigan University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Capital University.
